We look out for unique, high quality programs for niche travellers. Wildlife photography tours are coming of age with digital imaging and people are looking to hone their craft. But you can’t just jump on the next safari van and be taking those drop dead shots.
Nature and wildlife photography travellers have different needs than other nature travellers. While most nature travellers enjoy moving about to see many types of species, serious pro and amateur photographers look to create superior images that require a bit of patience and control. We’ve found two great options to suit different needs and preferences.
Example Tours
There are wildlife photography tours and cruises where you can go in a group with a professional photographer. These often feature a lot of tutoring by the photography guide who helps sharpen your skills by sharing their photography knowledge, their location knowledge and their technical tips about composition and digital photo editing. These are all around immersive experiences. Here’s an example of a dedicated photography tour.
Best of Chobe Botswana Photography Tour – excellent for beginners and experienced enthusiasts.
Here is an ecolodge or hotel based type program.
Peruvian Amazon – Ecolodge Photography Package excellent for any level of skill.
Certain ecolodges, safari camps and hotels will have programs set up for photographers. These tend to be more self serve and less structured, allowing you to place yourself in a location and take the time you need to take advantage of the best opportunities. Programs come with an in-house or local guide and some planned excursions. Some lodges supply cameras and lenses and have on-site facilities for photo editing.
Ecolodge programs can be less expensive than a fully dedicated, professionally led photo tour since you’re not being tutored or led from start to finish. Typically these can be as few as a couple of nights up to a full week. Often times, you can combine multiple ecolodges in a country or region.
Where We Have Programs
We currently have operators in Botswana, South Africa, East Africa, Panama, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil and Ecuador that offer their own style of programs. We also have programs in the Arctic and Antarctic with select expedition cruises. New suppliers are being evaluated all the time so if you have something in mind, send us an email and see if we can help you. It’s always exciting to explore new places.
Let’s not forget that half the fun is getting there. We’ve been selling nature travel for 20 years and work with the best operators to get you on location.
